Spectacular background, seem thoughts was devoted in to it, great piece of art.
Mango and its backgrounds, let me say two pieces of art…....:))
I like it very much Janis.

  • Janis Zroback replied

Thank you Rachel…the background took several days longer than the mangoes and is composed of many layers of acrylics and pastels..yes a great deal of thought goes into the works on canvas, where the backgrounds are just as important as the subject matter. I agree two pieces of art as you so wonderfully express it..

The golden colors of the Mangos are gorgeous, but I really like the paint effect you gave the background. Beautiful work Janis.

  • Janis Zroback replied

The effect on the background took a lot of time and work, as do all the works on canvas…I do a lot of layering of different media and texture to get the effect I want…this time it was a carnival effect to match the tropical fruit…the background is raised and the mangoes buried…glad you like it….thanks Jim.

Brilliant texture in the background. It contrasts so nicely with the smoothness of the fruit :)

  • Janis Zroback replied

Thanks Alison…that was the plan when I started the painting…glad you like it…

Janis the background compliments the mangoes and I love the texture you have used. The mango in Australia has almost become an icon especially up north where I live. We have the most amazing ones here called Bowen specials, large ones from Bowen a town up north from Brisbane and you cannot compare the beautiful taste with any other. I have tried them in the States, Mexican mangoes and others imported from Sth America, but the Bowen specials wow, they make your mouth water just thinking about them.

  • Janis Zroback replied

Thanks Gloria…glad you like my mangoes.
In the Caribbean where I grew up we had many different species, from very large to exceedingly small mangoes….
Here is “Julie Mango” from my pages here…different treatment, but still textured..

  • Janis Zroback replied

Just added a lot of paintings to illustrate to a story and had to delete them right after…I wish RB had an easier way for us to add pictures to writing without adding them as art first…causes a lot of confusion.
I’m so pleased you like this painting Hilary…thank you so much…
