Pear Journal...
This is page 8 of the Pear Journal…designed to represent the pear in the urban landscape, but in an abstract fashion
I use a hard bound Journal with hand made paper and a hand stitched fabric cover made by a young woman here in Toronto.

There is no right or wrong format or rules about how to make a painting creativity journal, it’s a totally personal choice. You might like to use an elegant, handbound journal or you may want to use a cheap ringbound notebook because then you won’t feel inhibited about putting lots of stuff into it. You may want something small you can carry with you at all times. Think about what art materials you might use in your journal if you’re going to sketch directly into it

- will it be pencil, pen, or watercolor -and get a journal with paper that’s suitable for this. Keep it by the side of the bed so you can jot down those creativity ideas that seem to like coming up when one’s dozing in bed….about.comMark Peterson

Janis,It’s fascinating me, firstly the complementary colour are great, composition, details layout, all together built up an interesting art work. the blaze brighten areas cause sort of drama.
Janis Zroback replied
Thank you Rachel…if one thinks of a city street, leaves and trees, foliage, fences and finials, [large one on the right] sunset and clouds, thinking of pears [see letters] that would approximate the imagery of this Journal page…so yes you are quite right when you say a “sort of drama”...that is what I was going for…

Janis, please let me know where can i see or buy that Journal?
Janis Zroback replied
Oh Rachel, how nice of you…. after I die, if my son does not want to keep them, he can sell them if they are still around..I only decided to show them recently…before this no one saw them but myself, not even my husband…so the RB is the first to see some of the pages…
Alison Pearce
Beautiful work!

This is a must see in the larger view where the illumination from the center is prominent. You take such care and put so much thought into your journal Janis that they are works of art by themselves! From the smaller view I thought your patterns were overlaid on a map of some sort but on closer inspection I can see all the leaves, lines and finial etc. that it makes for a great representation of urban life and I like how it is centered around the symbol of the pear which I now associate with a lot of your work. ( I know you do lots of fruit, but for some reason the pear really stands out!)
Janis Zroback replied
Joanne you are so right..though my Gallery collection shows many apples, the pear is it for me….
I have done paintings which take minutes, others hours, then days and still others months…some of the quickest ones are my favourites… it’s almost as if they paint themselves…this journal page was one of the ones that took some days though it’s quite small…I wanted it to look on one level like you were standing on front steps of a city house and there was overhanging foliage, the setting sun in the distance, all overlaid with symbols of urban living and of course featuring the pear…
