The Garden-The Tulip Bed

The Tulip Bed is part of the Series “The Garden”....

I should have added this along with the other two, but here is the third painting of Tulips to celebrate the end of Spring here in Canada…tomorrow it will be 32c…a real start to summer….Janis

Watercolour on Arches Not Paper….

The May sun, whom
all things imitate,
that glues small leaves to
the wooden trees,
shone from the sky
through bluegauze clouds
upon the ground.
Under the leafy trees
where the suburban streets
lay crossed,
with houses on each corner,
tangled shadows had begun
to join the roadway and the lawns.
With excellent precision
the tulip bed
inside the iron fence
upreared its gaudy
yellow, white and red,
rimmed round with grass,
reposedly
. ....William Carlos Willi

It certainly is getting hotter here, and it’s as though the heat is mixing many colors together. Did you also apply the colors first then dark shades later in this one?

  • Janis Zroback replied

I certainly did in parts of it, then I added pencil lines and left some areas barely painted, while some are intensely coloured…
