The Trees-The View from Here

“The View from Here” is from the Series “The Trees“
Watercolour on Arches Paper
All it has experienced, tasted, suffered:
The course of years, generations of animals,
Oppression, recovery, friendship of sun and – Wind
Will pour forth each day in the song
Of its rustling foliage, in the friendly
Gesture of its gently swaying crown,
In the delicate sweet scent of resinous
Sap moistening the sleep-glued buds,
And the eternal game of lights and
Shadows it plays with itself, content .....Herman Hesse

Janis your paintings evoke such feeling in my heart when I look at them! To me, that is the best sign of beautiful art~ if it makes my heart ache! This is so lovely, the blues and violents make it so vivid. As I am learning still, may I ask what sort of blue you used?
Janis Zroback replied
Thank you..I’m so pleased you get such joy from my paintings…
I use all Winsor Newton paints…Ultramarine, [here]
I also use Winsor Blue, Indigo and Antwerp Blue among others..I use whatever suits the subject and I really like the saturated colours, even in my darker paintings, like the one on Night before this one…I used a lot of Ultramarine there as well as Burn’t Sienna, which is my favourite brown…
Visit my website to see my other series’ in acrylic…link is on my overview page.

A tree standing is a breath of air, a story to tell, this tree looks as though there is much to speak.
Janis Zroback replied
Thanks vickie…I do agree with you…trees have many stories to tell…we thought we lost one this winter,as it was cracked all through by heavy snow…. we cut it back severely, intending on uprooting it, but now little new branches are appearing all over it…who knew?

Not only is this a great painting but I love the quote by Hesse. Which book of his holds this quote?
Janis Zroback
I am not sure…. it is a poem about an oak tree…I don’t know if it also appears in Siddartha…I found it in a selection of poetry for gardeners, which I do when I’m not painting in the summer…. glad you love the painting.
