The Trees-Winter Night

The Trees-Winter Night

Winter Night” is part of the Series “The Trees”...this is from an older sketch in my files….not really sure of it’s origin….

Watercolour on Arches Paper…

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow
.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year
.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake
.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep
....Robert Frost

I love moody works and this is spilling over with atmosphere! It’s funny that you said you put it on the bubble just for fun. I find that people often like the works we dismiss as incidental more than the pieces we ourselves are proudest of!

  • Janis Zroback replied

I’m actually quite pleased with it, but at the time I could not remember where I got the inspiration for the piece, and I like to be able to write about the work…if I can’t, then I won’t usually put it in…that’s why I said it was just for fun…
