This painting was paired with my painting of the endangered Snowy Plover for an art show. They both won ribbons, so now they are my official award-winning birds.
The California Gull is the most common seagull here in Oregon (despite the name). There are really many different birds generically (and sometimes sneeringly) referred to as “seagulls” however, so it is fun to give them a closer look …so how many types YOU can find.
Original painting is 11.5″ × 15″ acrylic on Strathmore Aquarius II paper. It was painted in a watercolor style, so the whites are just the whites of the paper. It’s more challenging and fun this way.
