midnight express
This is a collaboration I was lucky and honored to create with the brilliant MarkezzAckui
There are no individual verses, our expressions are entangled in a way inspired by his vision, my reaction, and each of our emotions… combined to one creation.
midnight express belongs to the following groups:
Nirvana (Only 1 photographic art and 1 written work will be accepted per day ) and Vibration in Art and Verse - VAVoom!unable to sleep one night-
I felt a need
to leave,
in search of a reprieve,
I’ve done all I can do,
time for something new
travelling to a place I’d like to be…
taken to the simplicity of
trips of laugh at-s, we step back to where…
walking with myself
and talking with myself,
trusting my mind,
my intentions,
dreams
and visions
I felt like a duck during migration
and find myself at a train station
no schedule is required
because you know we’re always moving.
we move and we travel over ups… downs…
I enter,
and merge to the center,
of the platform
somewhat torn,
decision is upon me,
and I decide calmly,
ticket in hand,
I give it to the man,
no luggage for this trip,
the old things don’t fit,
shared understanding about moments of…
Still.
still moments still pushing beyond…
“ALL ABOARD”
announces the conductor, I glance at the others,
my seat awaits
and I seal my fate,
the doors to the train close
I chose-
voyages, missions of motions to get to
a place that’s safe, it’s ok to feel tired.
an illusion of exhaustion fuels the ride we didn’t sign up for…
my seat
leather and cold
unused
again I choose
I slide up to the window
and peer out
as the world moves about….
all I have known is now gone,
the new realm
at the helm,
not sure and
slightly scared,
truth bared
never been to this place, the train sets it’s pace,
there’s mild turbulence
as the train rocks
forth…and….back,
yet steady on the track,
sky
pitch
black
travelling without a ticket, soaring with new wings -
the new freedom this brings is lifting us past
rash implications like paying to move, buying your way…
twinkling stars
Venus?
maybe Mars
am I seen as I see?
after some time
I get off
this is my NEW city
swift. it’s fast but slow, un-paced beats of feet
stomping a path, cutting a way to make sense of
time gone by while we roll…
I now understand,
it’s all in my hands,
and it’s up to me to implement my plans

It’s almost like traveling on a train across a countryside in winter, listening to the ratlles and hums of machine and men while staring at the snowy landscape, confused and in awe.
gretchen . replied
i agree lumase… the mystery you raise and picture you paint truly captures the ride our writing reflects… thank you. xox
erich biemer
i think i’ve ridden that train…..sometimes it’s a bumpy express…..
gretchen . replied
that’s exactly right erich, the bumps are all part of it… and it has to be an express because there are no early exits… xox
christym
oh this is such a pleasure to read! love what you’ve done with run-together phrases to vary the pace…you really capture the motion (and the e-motion ;))—it’s a wonderful ride.
gretchen . replied
thank you christym! i don’t think there’s any better way to refresh the feel of writing then putting multiple pen holders together and letting them loose! :-)

no luggage, the old things don’t fit – that is such a perfect expression of freedom. to shed the old – all of it, the things, the insecurities, the preconceptions and launch into something new and brave and strong. that is to be alive when so many of the dead are walking. uplifting and scary writing gretchen!
gretchen . replied
it is such a unique exploration and amazing blessing to connect with another writer and see how the work evolves, we are both glad this reached you! xox

Gretchen I really love your style. You have an uncanny knack to place the reader (me) right in he heart of your writing. Sweet.
gretchen . replied
that means a lot to me brother, putting us all in that one place is the greatest achievement a writer can chase. thank you! xox

good things happen when writers merge their styles and minds… the play on each others strengths make this a unique piece… and the message calls like that train whistle in the deep night…........... b
gretchen . replied
you are certainly one that hears that whistle… i completely agree about colabs… i haven’t done many but each one always turns into a personal favorite… love&light b…
