As We Drum ... We Are One
When I first joined Femine Intent I told one of the hosts, Lina, that I had something in mind for this group. What I wanted was to show the part of me that I value so much and have enbraced with all my heart. So, Lina … I finally completed it!!
Native women have drummed for many years. The drum represents the universal heartbeat of Mother Earth – the universal mother to us all. The sound that was heard first in the world was her heartbeat. The first sound a baby hears in the womb is the heartbeat of his Mother.
The heartbeat is manifested through playing a special rhythm on the drum. This rhythm facilitates healing and realignment of the four realms of human existence (Mental, Spiritual, Emotional, Physical) because Great Mystery and Mother Earth revolve around the rhythm. The drum creates a hum that rests between the voice and the drum—the hum is the spirit of the Ancestors.
Many years ago, a group of Lenape drummers invited me to drum with them. We met once a week for several years. During that time, they taught me many songs and chants, some in the Native Lenape tongue. I felt a sense of belonging that I have never felt before. Belonging to these people and the universe itself. I am grateful to these men and women of the Lenape tribe for their teachings and allowing me to drum along with them all those years.
II made this picture Rainbow colors to represent the Rainbow tribe.
“_The Rainbow Tribe consists of everyone, of native and non-native blood, who believe that in our coming together as a tribe of people, of all colors, we will make the one true tribe of two-legged ones that we are. _
I personally own many drums; currently I own seven drums. Three of my drums are pictured here and were all made especially for me by Shari Kestenbaum.

The picture of the woman drumming is a favorite picture of mine. At the top it states … “As We Drum … We are One” and the inspiration at the bottom reads :
The DRUM is Great Spirit’s favorite instrument . That is why we are all given a heartbeat.* ~~ Mano, Navajo Elder
This is my feminine intent … that we all hear the heartbeat of one another.

This is awesome Judi. Your eyes are gleaming, the images are beautiful, I love your intent. Can’t think of powerful enough superlatives…............... :0) You are a beautiful spirit….........
Judi Taylor replied
Jenny, my dear friend. I have been so fortunate in my life to have so many wonderful people support me and guide me. If my eyes are gleaming it is because of them who have put the gleam there. It is also my intent now that I give back … I want to make a difference to others as these many people have made a difference in my life. Thank you for always supporting me here, Jenny. YOU are the gleam in my eye.

I’m drumming with you sister, beautiful creation and words of wisdom!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Judi Taylor replied
Oh Tammy, I would love to drum beside you. There is something very special and meditative about drumming as I am sure you are aware. I would like to find the time to drum more often as I once did. Perhaps these memories have gotten me started again … to hear and beat out the heartbeat once again. I will hear yours as I drum tonight.

Wonderful….beautiful work Judi…personally…love the drum myself and often go into a shop nearby to have a few little taps on one…am sure they think I’m nuts…oh well…lol…your writing of the history of the drum has inspired me to actually purchase one…in the January sales, so thank you :))
Judi Taylor replied
Oh … I am so glad to hear this. You will not regret it. You will LOVE your drum. Be sure and do a drum wash over yourself or better yet, have someone else do it for you … it will feel marvelous and actually benefit you. And don’t worry … many people have thought I was nuts too, I just smile at them (makes THEM crazy hehe)!
C J Lewis
Oh thank you, I know I will love it as I love drums already…can sit on my roof (it’s a flat top roof) and drum in the sun, spread some good energy to the people of this city…lol…Ok will do…but…what’s a drum wash?? Yep, that’s all we can do…smile at their strange looks…I actually gets smiles back from most…so not too bad…brightens up their day…brightens up mine too :)
Judi Taylor replied
There is such a thing called a “Drum wash” where someone beats on their drum as they move the drum along the chakras of the person … actually along their outline .. up one side, over their head and down the other side. Then up the front and over their head and down behind them. The Drum wash “cleanses” the aura and aligns the chakras with the one heartbeat!!!
I hope you will post a picture of the drum when you get it. I would LOVE to see it.
C J Lewis
Ahhh…now that’s very similar to what is done in Falun Gong…Chinese exercises…except it is done with the hands held a special way…calling the Universal energy to the chakra points and particularly to the Falun area…the solar plexus area. Thank you for letting me know…will definitely do a Drum Wash…will get a friend to do it for me. Yes, I will post a pic of my drum for you to see…thanks again for the encouragement :)xx

Hi Judi, I’m strolling through your gallery again, missed this one so I have been reading, how wonderful it is to learn new things, especially from such a clear spirit as you, If I hadn’t already learned that about you, I could see from this amazing portrait.
