There's a Dalmatian in my Lunchbox

A short poem just for kids – would love to turn it into a picture book one day

Thank you so much for all the feedback – I am feeling very humble and very touched so many of you have taken the time to both read and comment – Thank you!

Now available as a poster

There's a Dalmatian in my Lunchbox belongs to the following groups:

There’s a dalmatian in my lunchbox
And he’s got me hopping mad
Cos when I checked this morning
There was only bread and jam!

He’s squashed my nice banana
And melted all my cheese
He’s licked up all my yoghurt
And my biscuits now have fleas!

Now he’s sitting there grinning
Just wagging his white tail
Doesn’t he know he’s a sandwich thief
Who should go straight to jail?

He doesn’t seem to understand
This is no place for a dog
Amongst my cheese and yoghurt
And Mum’s homemade honey log!

I’m so perplexed, I don’t know how
There suddenly came to be
A dalmatian in my lunchbox
Smiling up at me!

I plan on reading this aloud to my kelpie…no doubt she will love it and create much madness as a loving reminder also :)

  • Michelle Whennan replied

I hope your kelpie loves it as much as my kids did! My dalmatian is insensed and doesn’t find it amusing at all whereas my Rottweiler thinks it’s hilarious!

wonderfully well written, and so very visual, it would be wonderful for a child’s story book., because unless it is illustrated it must be VERY visual, as this is. well done. hugs
