Wanting to learn how to draw a car on paper is perfectly normal, although if you don’t have the proper instruction… it can be hard going at the very best off times. If you have already tried your hand at drawing a car on paper, you’ve most likely made a mess off it, with wobbly lines and proportions way out of whack!

The good news is that we all start off as beginners and then can draw our way into ‘masterpiece’ status with practice, education, and a stealthy combination of patience and persistence. Read on for some general tips on how to draw a realistic car, by hand, on paper… i’ll also point you to a mini tutorial I found really helpful on: How To Draw A Car Step By Step, it covers the whole process in more detail than I ever could.

A common mistake that I used to make, and still do at times is pressing down too hard on the paper with my pencil. It’s not much off a problem unless you press down too hard and make a mistake in the process, making it extremely hard if not impossible to fix. You see… by pressing down too hard on the paper, you make an indent in the paper which changes everything, and makes it really hard to rescue your image. I would suggest taking it easy and drawing lightly and adjusting as you go, a methodical and measured approach will allow you to rub lines out and add new ones to really perfect your image and make it look like you envisioned.

So once you have mastered the fine art of being gentle with your tools of trade, the next problem that I faced when learning how to draw a car on paper was getting proportions just right. Time and time again I would struggle and get extremely frustrated with the end image resembling what I could best describe as… well for the sake of children reading this, I’ll just say it was something left to be desired. This brings me to my next tip on using a grid! Once I started using a grid and perspective lines, I found it extremely easy to recreate and now create unique car images by amalgamation of different styles and models that I’m a fan off. Using a grid, it’s simple enough to get the proportions as they should be… and then with practice, you can make improvements and adjustments as you desire.

If you are serious about learning how to draw a car on paper, then don’t give up if things don’t turn out as you had initially planned the first time round. Take a break and then continue working on your image until things start turning in your favor, as mentioned, it takes time, patience, and persistence to get things right. My advice would be to pick up a comprehensive guide such as How To Draw Cars Fast And Easy for expert advice and tutorials on how to draw a car on paper, I certainly found it extremely useful… who knows, you might too!
