Chantelle said that it is hard to believe, that I'm turning 65.

I’m having my first exhibition. So whom can I tell? My world was teaching. I’m retired.

My chemist and my dentist know more about my art than most (Apart from my son, daughter and their mum). Oh yes, and Melissa, the teacher, at Hazelhurst.
Chantelle serves me, at the local chemist shop, where I’ve been getting my medication, since 1972, with some breaks in between.
Once, this half of the local shopping centre, on this side of the East Hills Railway Line was pretty busy.
I can still remember when the post office was still opposite the chemist and I asked the manager of the local branch of the Commonwealth Bank for a loan.
Once for my Sunbird and once for my kit-home, at Nambucca Heads.
A long time ago, they moved to the other side of the railroad track.
When I first went to this chemist shop, it was run by a man, and his sister. He was such an interesting man. Would have made a great doctor but as our neighbour across the road, used to say, he would have sold you half the shop, if he’d got the chance.
He always had some other remedy to sell you, once he knew what ailed you.
He is long gone from the shop.
Now, when Che is in charge, I like to tell her about my latest paintings. (She’s also very concerned that my love-life is as happy as it should be!)
And so it came about that I was telling them how, on Fathers Day, before I knew it, I was committed to an exhibition of 65 of my painting, at the Tap Gallery, Darlinghurst, to celebrate my 65th birthday with an exhibition of 65 of my paintings.
I like to think that Chantelle is quite genuine about underestimating my age.
She doesn’t remember (I think.) But she has done that before.
Not that I think that they’ll go to the Tap Gallery to view my exhibition.
But then, you never know!!!

You have many people to tell about your exhibition and many new people to meet through your exhibition.

I met someone today, an elderly gentleman who phoned and offered a commission. I was captivated by his stories and how he had dresed up to meet us. His “little project” has captured my imagination and started another journey. Exhibitions are like that, they take you into new and exciting directions. They push you to find out more about yourself.

Selling to a complete stranger also brings such validation.

I am so glad you are having an exhibition Jo. It is about time! Make sure you keep us updated on all the details. It is going to be a fun ride so put your seat belt on and get ready :-D

Thanks Sooz, just getting hold of the seat-belt. :)

BTW I hope you give a flyer to your Dentist and Chemist … who knows they just might come.

I had the same relationship with the cafe owner where I exhibit now. She came to another exhibiton I organised a few years ago which really surprised me. Then she mulled it over and created her own art space. I could never have predicted that.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they bought your work.

Ha! Ha! Now add the menswear store manager, in REvesby!! (Did run back in and give him the flyer). Alsways great to talk to. Like Che, at the chemist, he laughs readily at everything I tell him.
