I have been wearing the naturist symbol, designed by the late Mr Cor Uytenhaak, for a number of years, as a pendant. A friend of mine (then), in the Netherlands, wanted an Akubra hat, to wear, so he could watch his (then) partner participate in line-dancing. I wanted the pendant. So I took the train to the Strand Arcade, in the city (of Sydney) and bought the hat and we sent each other these items.
Cor Uytenhaak was hoping to distribute the jewellery again, as he had done in the past, in Australia, and, while I explained that I could never be a business-man, I DID find him a distributor.
In gratitude, he sent me the ring.
It strikes me that the only other men, whom I have seen wearing these, are of Dutch background.
I have this theory that, while the Dutch love their ‘gezelligheid’ (ambience, cosiness, friendship) in the little houses, apartments, terraces and cafés, sheltering from the cold, that when they (we) come to a climate like Australia’s, they (we) throw (our-)themselves into it 100%. Forget the textile!!
