And....back to Bourke, again. by

Diane (Never sure re: one or two n’s.)
I actually remember her last name
because, since those days (1968),
I added it to mine!

school, bourke, remembering

In 1969, I enrolled in the “Art Teachers Conversion Course”. It was my first experience of formal art lessons. Soon other interests prevailed, until, I had lunch, in Hazelhurst and then enjoyed the art classes there. Culminating in my exhibition, in 2008.

Your memory a lot better than mine! Excellent work.

  • Thanks, Jim.
The albums, the boxes of slides, the 8mm movies, the scrapbooks……they all help!

Extraordinary work Jo. I love the feel of this one … the school desks .. the window … all add interest to this beautiful portrait.

  • Thank you, Sooz. Portables. HOT!!!!! This really was another lot of good-fun, good-natured kids.
Diane quiet, shy, ready to laugh.
The two boys in the background, my assistants.
One of them I’ve also painted and the other photographed.
(I wonder if his sister will recognise him, from this imressionistic distance!)

  • P.S. This was another one that really seemed like a mess, and not satisfactory, until I finished it, today and moved right away, into the other room, to sit and look at it.
I agree with my son: THat’s what you’ve got to do to appreciate it.
Once again this was a girl who just quietly went along with things. Was there but never showing off or being pushy.
It strikes me that somehow a lot of these ended up in my albums or slide boxes.

Your son is so wise. I think he should be your agent for when you are famous after this exhibition :-D

I am glad you stopped and moved it to another room .. now we can appreciate it.

  • Not after the fame, Sooz, will just enjoy seeing them all together in one gallery, actually on walls rather than drying on the loungeroom floor. :)

I still grin back at the girl grinning, in this photo.
She had a habit of, walking into the room; looking at the work, waiting on the board; shake her head and say: Crazy!.

Gorgeous potrait!!!! So interesting looking at all of the old photos too!! well done!!

  • Can’t believe that this was ten years before you were born! Seems like, a few months ago. (The pictures and everything else that I mentioned above, have helped to make it so, I guess.)

Really like this such great character in it and love the expression.

  • She was quiet, open, friendly and had an easy smile. I guess she still will have. Via Redbubble, I DID make contact with the sister of one of the two boys, in the background.
