Still colouring in - another work in progress.

Hector Malot wrote: Sans Famille. In the Netherlands that became Alleen Op De Wereld (Alone in the world), a very popular book for my generation.
George van Raemdonck illustrated the 1940 edition.

I scribbled over George van Raemdonck’s illustrations, in my now, most treasured book, 60 years ago, and and I’m still doing it, by copying the illustration in charcoal on to canvas.
And colouring it in, in oils.

Very much missing going to the art class, at Hazelhurst and having Melissa advise on proportions.

Just always gave just the right amount of advice and encouragement.

The book:

I scribbled over Georges van Raemdonck’s illustrations, 60 years ago, of my now most treasured book and and I’m still doing it.

It’s really fun seeing this. Illustrated books inspired me, as a child, too. Aren’t these old one wonderful.
    Thanks to Community.

Thanks for commenting, Fran. Yes. As he was a cartoonist, I don’t think he took the illustrations as seriously, in 1940, as illustrations in children’s books are taken now-a-days but they mean so much to me.

That’s enough for today. The light is fading.

I repeat the point of this exercise :

Dank je wel Ien. Ik blijf het gevoel hebben dat dit boek een soort levenslang vriendje is geweest en nog steeds gebleven. Als heel klein kind gaf het mij mijn eerste indrukken, ( in de Bockenbergstraat, Gouda, ) van een ander land. Ik ben aan nog één begonnen. Dus nu hangen er als zes van mijn schilderijen van Remi, in de gang en ben aan de zevende bezig.
