In Sad Remembrance ...

the first two poems were written about personal experiences years after the VietNam war …

the last poem was written about my thoughts on the neverending war in the middle east .. the reference to the wind blowing has to do with the military’s use of depleted uranium…

1969 – the summer of love

he sat down beside me on that hot afternoon
the sun streaming and the birds alight in the bushes
a story that had to be told came from his heart and fell from his eyes
a faraway tale of pain and loss and innocence stolen
no words could tell his story so lost in the long ago he was
I held his hand and kissed his cheek and he turned to look through me
at rice fields and jungle and bodies rotting in the water

-------

whose eyes see only yesterdays

for him whose eyes see only yesterdays
of blood and death and jungle full of fear
he walks the streets and sleeps in alleyways and forest camps
he is my brother and my lover lost to me
for I am in the present and he remains in the past

-------

and none are safe

oh the bankers oh the bankers jump for joy!
and the neocons spin their great illusion
weaving a world to their nightmare dreams
and on the other end of the great thread
another who spins his own not understanding
as the neocons do not understand
the threads they weave have a life of their own
and the dead and dying from both webs
sheep caught in the thread willing and unwilling
lie amongst the poppies and the sand
and the wounded and living bring death home
and the winds blow and none are safe …

Thank you for submitting these two poems. They are beautifully written, and the language is so very clean and crisp.

“The winds blow,” these words cut so deep.

Bless you and bless you again…
