yellow bird....
I moved this out of my journal to here in my writing where it should have been …
yellow bird
they stopped my life
they made me die
beneath six feet
they made me lie
my laugh is silenced
my cry unheard
oh for the call of a yellow bird
the rustle of leaves I once had heard
the wind through the willow the birch and the pine
oh these aching bones of mine
to see the dappled fawn and doe
the rain the grass the new fallen snow
to see things I used to know
to laugh to see to love again
but now I’m dead and what’s been has been
they stopped my life
they made me die
beneath six feet
they made me lie
my laugh is silenced
my cry unheard
oh for the call of a yellow bird

WoW! Spookster! Could this be a coal-miner’s lament perhaps? Excellent work!!

hmm never thought about it that way … but I see where you got that from .. the yellow bird .. the canary in the coal mine .. yes …
I wrote it when I was in high school .. a freshman .. I was 13 years old (smile) ...

Larry Davis commented about this poem in my journal and he wrote ….
When I die I will lie in this earth
never to want again
But my memories will fly through the sky so high
never to want again
The sounds of birds and the love of life
never to want again
I have lived my life and have felt the warmth
I want it all over again.

This would make such an awesome bluegrass song owlspook. As Emmy Lou said, ” those miserable songs bring us such joy”. It’s definitely one of those!
