Dear Peter …

Josie and I just returned from Central America a few days ago … you remember .. I told you about the trip a few months ago (smile) ...

Well … (grin) ... we were extremely lucky to catch a glimpse of the newest variation of the Quetzal bird … Spendorus Resplendent … only seen once before by the noted orthinologist, Roger M. Milhouse, PhD, on his last trip to the region back in 2001.

You remember him don’t you? ... the bird guy from back in our university days? LOL … I know you couldn’t have forgotten him (grin) ...

well … You can imagine our excitement yet we were able to quickly get his photo. No not Roger’s photo (grin) ... Do check the attachment (smile)

After we returned I sent a copy to Roger who immediately emailed back that it was indeed the bird that he had seen.

I plan to meet with him in a few months to tentatively plan a trip back to the area where we sited the bird. I’m so excited I can hardly wait.

Would you be interested in joining me when I meet with Roger? .. Josie is tied up with another project and won’t have time to help me out on this one. I know how interested you are in the wildlife of Central America so …

get back to me as soon as you can … if you’re really interested I’d love to have you join us (big smile)

    Yes, I thought I recognised it! You have done brilliantly well, Owl, to get such a splendid “capture” of this extraordinary and beautiful avian. You must have a very good “camera”. I only wish I could join you on your next collecting trip, but I look forward to seeing what you find.

(big smile) ... as for the camera .. we really were lucky to get the shot .. it’s the same camera I took with me to Tarlis .. quite nice .. very fast .. cost me a bundle but it’s proved it’s worth many times … (smile) ... wish you could come too, bev … will definitely get in touch with you when we get back ..     Very intriguing description, it’s usually a time for fast research when I spot a new bird out at the feeder, the last one was a catbird couple.

    thanks Syd (big smile) ... oh I do know what you mean however we weren’t looking for the Quetzal when we found him .. just darn lucky .. a flash of color, saw it sitting in the tree, grab camera, take shot, view it back at camp later that day … total surprise .. well we knew it probably was a Quetzal .. and then Josie remembered Roger’s work … yup a surprise (smile) ...

    saw a couple of golden hooded blackbirds in the neighborhood yesterday … I remember the first time I saw them! .. ooo a flurry of research! (grin) ... a catbird, eh… hmmm nave yet to meet a catbird .. if I had time I’d research them .. gotta fly off today .. back to work … I mostly see greckles, sparrows and a pair of doves who come to visit …

    (beaming smile) .. I’m so pleased you like this piece … as I was designing it and it came together the first thing I thought was “Quetzal” (big smile) ...so I did a little research on them and then wrote the ‘letter’ for the description … it all came together so easily! (big smile)
