As Winter Approaches Shawl

welcome .. come on in and have a seat … chilly night out, yes? ... I started a log in the fireplace .. should warm us up a bit … anything to drink? ... please be comfortable … I rarely get company nowadays … people are beginning to think I’m becoming a recluse .. lol … I think they just don’t like coming out here .. too far off the beaten path ….....

a little music? good … ah let’s see … how about Sergei Rachmaninoff playing his 2nd piano concerto in c minor ... so very nice for a night like this …. oh it’s his recording with the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra … think it was directed by Leopold Stokowski … you remember him don’t you? he was oh how would you say .. oh so theatrical and bit of a renegade … I so loved to watch him wave his hands around lol …

and I so love this concerto … I choose it on purpose .. you must know that .. yes? ah yes … yes it was .. we went together .. oh what an elegant pair we made .. or so we thought lol …. ah it seems just like yesterday .. the years certainly have flown by ….

do you remember how when we met Sergei after the concert .. how he went on and on about feeling and creating from the heart? he was so passionate about his work … not like Prokofiev … remember what Sergei said of Prokofiev? lol … he does not exalt .. he broods … lol ….... all that and with that delightful Russian accent ….... what a night that was ….. where did we go after that? I can’t seem to remember …. we did? over to Dottie’s? oh yes now I remember … that god awful boring party of hers … bunch of stuffed shirts .. lol … Mr. and Mrs. Roger Higgersfeld …. oh my yes I remember now .. the old baffoon … keep talking on and on and on about politics and to the point that even Sir Jeffrey was beginning to yawn … wonder what ever happened to him … last I heard he was off to Bavaria or some such place …

another drink? could you put another log on the fire for me please … it is quite chilly out tonite ….

here’s your drink, deary … ah yes that really was a great concert … yes listening to it does bring back so many memories …. listen … the theme is played here again … there is a yearning yes? ... oh yes I so agree .. there is hope too … and when all else fails there is always hope …
.

.
suggest if you’ve read this far that you read all the comments and my replies … you’ll find out what happened to Sir Jeffrey and what the shawl was designed after (big smile) .. and who know what other tidbits you might find (grin)
.
This is the another in a series of Shawls I’ve been working on with stories to go along with these images like this mini story (big smile) ... no critique asked for .. it’s not perfect but I hope it pleases you while you listen to the music and view my work (big smile)

Beautiful story and music and the image reminds me of stained glass. I like how it comes more into focus in the center. Lovely

  • owlspook replied

thank you so much Jen (big smile) ... and thank you for noticing and pointing it out to me … having the center focus can draw the eye to the center even more (smile) did it do so for you? (curious me (grin))

and btw it’s the stained glass window on the wall off to the left of the fireplace (big smile) ...

Oh how I absolutely rank this story and music to accompany your super image as 20 out of 20. Oh lah de flipping dah…Sir Jefffrey…..he ran off to join a Bavarian Oompah Band.
What an imagination – I love you:)))
It is so like a Christmas design, holly-like in appearance, ou had me peering bout looking for the berries:

sad to say Sir Jeffrey’s fate was less humorous than that .. seems that he stayed a bit too long and when hitler came to power (bavaria being part of germany by then) made the mistake of speaking up once too often and a local bar owner beat him to death one night. Poor Sir Jeffrey just couldn’t be sneaky and subtle even with all his upbringing … we didn’t find out until years after the war and how we did is a whole nother story. ....

holly, eh (grin) sorry no berries .. was thinking of leaves as they decayed on the ground covering the earth as a blanket … but holly is cool too (big smile) ..

thank you jenny .. I really am please I can put a smile on your face with my art and stories (big smile)

yes it did draw my eye in to the center more. stained glass window left of the fireplace…....... I feel so smart today! heh heh

  • owlspook replied

(big smile) ... you have a great imagination too (big smile)

however all is not imagination in my story Rachmaninoff really did say that and more about the new (newer than him) composers in Russia and Prokofiev was one of those new Russian composers … so I took a little liberty and voila (big smile)

and if you read what I replied to jennyfnf you’ll find out what happened to Sir Jeffrey …

  • owlspook replied

(beaming smile) ... so nice of you to stop by and visit .. it is also a favorite of mine … in my younger days I dreamed of being a concert pianist but fate hadn’t had that in store for me ..perhaps my next life (big grin) ... twas a wonderful evening .. do take care on your way home … (big smile)

oh and if you want to know what happened to Sir Jeffrey check my reply above to Jennyfnf … sad about poor Sir Jeffrey ….

Sorry I didn’t get to listen to the music. Slow connection it would have taken me three hours to get through the ten minutes:forty-seven seconds on youtube. This is a beautiful story, i love the way you wrote it. I read it pretending I was her friend, You made me feel as though i were there. As for the Shawl! This thing is so beautiful! What creativity, and such beauty! I love this wonderful work. :)

  • owlspook replied

sorry about the slow connection .. a bummer .. been there done that .. don’t want to do it again … (sigh)

so happy you enjoyed it even without the music … I was hoping it would come off as if whoever was reading it could pretend they were there (big smile) .. thank you Cheyenne (big smile)

cool image & text!...you are much more talented at writing than I, Ms. Owl…, and with music too! way cool!

  • owlspook replied

ah shucks Scott … doesn’t happen often and certainly not when I need it too (grin) .. it comes and goes when the muse deems to grace me (big smile)

but the whole point is that even if it’s just a short statement .. for example an alternative imaginary one for this piece could be ”’what a beautiful stained glass window’, she said and he thought, ‘there she goes again .. she’s hinting she wants me to buy it for her’” … bet you could do something like that easily (big smile)
