We are in the midst of what the news is calling the Blizzard of 2013. In the past hour, winds have begun to howl, blasting snow in all directions. But earlier today, it started as a gentle snowfall that made for a nice winter stroll. So while I could I revisited the wetland area edging Concord Greene. With just a light snowfall of 3 inches, already a vastly different view from two days ago. With record snowfalls expected overnight, who knows what the morning will bring.

During an unexpected chance to experience Africa, a seed was planted. Nurtured by subsequent forays into wild places, this photographer was born.

Jacques Cousteau said “People protect what they love.” And we’ve all heard that “A picture is worth a thousand words.” So, enough with this. My photography says the rest. Thanks for listening.

Hope you’re hanging in… & chronicling this event! This is a beautiful shot of the Pale…. Just heard from my nephew who’s in Hopkinton with his parents (my sister & bro-in-law), who reported about two feet of snow, lots of wind to push it around, but no power failures. And that’s good news! Nothing to speak of here in Western New York… we have about 4 inches of snow (am about to post a shot of our back 40 as seen through our dining room window), though points north got more. And there was no wind associated with our snowfall. Have also heard from a cousin in suburban Hartford (tons of snow), but nothing from Rhode Island (Bristol & Newport relatives) or Amesbury or Falmouth, MA. Nor from friends in Cape Ann……… Whew. Grandniece & family being evacuated from Hull, we hear. Double Whew. It’s not nice to fool Mother Nature, as you well know!!

  • Thank you Sheila. Glad you and your loved ones kept safe. Happy to report I came through without issues while Mother Nature resounding took center stage this week. Was at my boyfriend’s in Concord last week so decided to forego fighting the elements to get to Boston Friday and just ride out the storm there. He’s the property manager for a 200+ resident condominium complex so spent most of the weekend dealing with snow removal stuff, while I of course, walked around and took pictures. ;-) Was able to get back to the city late Sunday, sadly after the prettiest part of the snowfall had past but just in time for clean-up and dig out work here! Ahhh… life in New England!

Beautiful, peaceful scene Sylvia! Stay safe!

  • Thank you Kent! Happy to say we survived the blizzard safely. Though we were stranded at Paul’s in Concord longer than planned. But the worst part of the storm was overnight, leaving the days to enjoy and marvel at the (deceivingly) peaceful beauty of this mighty snowfall.
