Artist's Description

I’ve not seen “Cooper’s Hawks” (Accipiter cooperii) before and I almost didn’t see this one. I heard a report of a hawk diving into the marsh, and as I headed over, in the trees just past the last row of townhouses, bright feathers caught my eye. Luckily I immediately stopped, zoomed and took a quick shot before I went for a better vantage point. By the time I tried a second exposure, he’d spread his wings and was gone.

Concord Greene, Concord, Massachusetts USA
Shot using handheld Canon PowerShot SX50 HS
Focal length 215mm (1200mm SLR equivalent), 1/320 sec at f/6.5, ISO 100
