As the first day of arctic wind infiltrates Boston, it stirs the surface of the Charles River and tosses frozen waves at the riverside. One day later, arctic air still whips sub-zero wind chills but the river all but gives up its fight, lying still as ice stretches from shore to shore.

During an unexpected chance to experience Africa, a seed was planted. Nurtured by subsequent forays into wild places, this photographer was born.

Jacques Cousteau said “People protect what they love.” And we’ve all heard that “A picture is worth a thousand words.” So, enough with this. My photography says the rest. Thanks for listening.

I’m trying to picture exactly where you are when you did this…

  • Don’t know who well you know city streets but the shoreline images are all along the Boston side of the river and the overview of the river is from the middle of the Mass Ave Bridge. From the bridge there’s a pedestrian walkway that brings you down to the river’s edge to walk along The Esplanade. I walked east/downriver for a couple blocks taking the river’s edge images near Gloucester Street. From where I this is on the Charles, if you turn around so the river is at your back, if you look straight up and ahead you’d see the Prudential Tower. Hope that makes sense!

  • So thrilled for this honor as finding compelling compositions touched by the hand of Nature in “civilized” settings is a bit of a challenge for me. Thank you so much Evita!
