Late afternoon September 11th 2012 in Boston’s Garden of Remembrance. Morning ceremonies ended hours ago so gone were the dignitaries and media. In this corner of a bustling Public Garden, a handful of people quietly gathered. No matter that most of the flowers left throughout the day had already wilted, the memories of that place and that day endure unwilted.

During an unexpected chance to experience Africa, a seed was planted. Nurtured by subsequent forays into wild places, this photographer was born.

Jacques Cousteau said “People protect what they love.” And we’ve all heard that “A picture is worth a thousand words.” So, enough with this. My photography says the rest. Thanks for listening.

Beautiful words and image Sylvia xx

  • Thank you Lynn. Though I go through the Public Gardens often (they’re at one end of my neighborhood), always take the same paths and didn’t realize this memorial was here. Just happened to turn that way, on that particular day, and the quiet power of the people gathered there drew me in.

Very nice Sylvia…great capture!!!! How are you???

  • Thank you Lorraine! I’m good – loving this September weather even though the bright days wreak havoc and contrast challenges for photography. Soaking in as much as I can as I’m also prepping for a visit from my almost 91 year old Mom! Should make for an interesting fall, you think? ;-) You well? Hope so!

    very beautiful work, Sylvia

  • Thanks Luda. I’d forgotten this memorial is in the Public Garden. Just happened to be there as I had an appointment around the corner. But finding it, on September 11th, and sharing with those who quietly gathered was a powerful experience. I’m glad some of the soulful beauty of the moment maybe shared with this image.
