Words and images do not adequately describe this wilderness. You must experience it. And though there are paved roads to bring you to the edge of safely maintained viewpoints, that’s just a hint to why this park is called Canyonlands, this district the Island in the Sky. To really appreciate this wilderness of rock, you must venture out like these hikers to get boots firmly planted on some serious desert ground.

During an unexpected chance to experience Africa, a seed was planted. Nurtured by subsequent forays into wild places, this photographer was born.

Jacques Cousteau said “People protect what they love.” And we’ve all heard that “A picture is worth a thousand words.” So, enough with this. My photography says the rest. Thanks for listening.

Fantastic. How little we are in this big world. Nicely pictured. Great shot.

  • Yes, how little we actually are in the face of this big wide world. And silly when we believe and act otherwise. But then, that’s just my little opinion… Thank You Marilyn!

Sensational shot! Years ago, my sister-in-law went hiking & camping alone in Canyonlands. She experienced a major storm there & really feared for her life. But she made it; her sterner stuff prevailed.

  • She must be strong! I was there under clear blue skies, in a sturdy air-conditioned 4-wheeler and found it plenty challenging. Can’t imagine taking on that wilderness alone and on foot. Impressive and humbling forces of Nature literally come to life and face you head-on there. Kudos to your sister-in-law for prevailing. And many thanks to you Sheila!

OMG That’s awesome…are those people there just at the right time or you know them??? beautiful capture!

  • Sometimes you just get lucky! I don’t know them. Just found them standing in the perfect spot to convey how impressively awesome that landscape is. I wish they were close enough for me to meet them though as I’d love to give them this photo. But at this point, I don’t think I’ll be lucky enough to find these guys again. But, I’ll keep fingers crossed just in case. ;-) Thank you Lorraine!
