In 1983, Sting wrote that “… There’s a little black spot on the sun today… It’s the same old thing as yesterday…” in the song “King of Pain” by The Police.
Well September 13 2011 was a clear but hazy day in Boston Massachusetts. Perfect conditions for the thick haze to darken the horizon and make the setting sun glow red as it slipped behind a soccer field and the stepped outline of hotel. Little did I know when I exposed this image, that conditions were also right to show that “little black spot on the sun today.” But beyond that, Sting and I differ in opinions… Not at all the “same old thing” for me. This was not just the first time I’ve seen a sunspot but now, I see all sunsets in a different light…
