Stretching through dry sand and eternal rock in northwestern Namibia runs the Hoarusib River. But in this parched terrain, you won’t to see running water. But even so, the presence of water is clearly witnessed as a ribbon of camelthorn and makanani palm trees break up the barren desert landscape that defines Namibia’s Skeleton Coast.

The greens of the Hoarusib Valley stand out from the muted tones of this hard earth inviting all to explore and enjoy the rare gifts of shade and vegetation. A lone giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis) has accepted this valley’s invitation and appears even more stately as he surveys his desert oasis.

During an unexpected chance to experience Africa, a seed was planted. Nurtured by subsequent forays into wild places, this photographer was born.

Jacques Cousteau said “People protect what they love.” And we’ve all heard that “A picture is worth a thousand words.” So, enough with this. My photography says the rest. Thanks for listening.

What a world out there that I have not conquered

  • I couldn’t have said it better myself Lorraine! Ah, but once you get there – especially to special places like this – you shrink beneath enormous skies and endless horizons and happily surrender to the wonders of Nature! ;-)
