Ursus maritimus, Cape Churchill, Wapusk National Park, Manitoba, Canada
50% of profits from sales of my Cape Churchill images is donated to Polar Bears International.
Polar bears are dedicated mothers. They need to be. Odds are against all young wild animals. And the challenges her cubs face are growing each day, with each (imperceptible to us, yet) escalating change in the climate.
But kids have a way of transcending the problems of the world… Oh how I laughed at the moment I came upon this image while reviewing my shots of this family… Apparently parenthood gets to even the most dedicated mother. But this polar bear Mom shows she knows how to kick back, lovingly tell her kids they’re making her crazy and make them wonder “Uh-oh! Is Mom OK?”
I get quite a kick out this photo. It reminds me why I love photography, the magic of a moment frozen in time, a moment so special you need the blink of a shutter to see it…
