Arctocephalus pusillus pusillus at Cape Cross Reserve

Along the coast of Namibia lies the largest breeding colony of Cape fur seals anywhere. And at least one of the inhabitants has something to say about that.
There’s one in every crowd and this one wants everyone to know…

During an unexpected chance to experience Africa, a seed was planted. Nurtured by subsequent forays into wild places, this photographer was born.

Jacques Cousteau said “People protect what they love.” And we’ve all heard that “A picture is worth a thousand words.” So, enough with this. My photography says the rest. Thanks for listening.

Amazing image that deserves far more attention !
I remember the smell when I was here…..!!!!!

  • That’s funny! Yes, the smell is definitely part of the experience and one that a camera (luckily?) can’t capture. ;-) Thank you Barbara!

  • With all those faces in the crowd, hard to focus on just one. Glad you liked it!

I like this one. It’s almost abstract. I can enjoy it as an animal shot or as a field of textures.

  • I often find finished shots that are different than what I envisioned when originally releasing the shutter. To hear that they take on a life of their own in the eyes of others is even more fascinating and rewarding. Thank you for your nice comment and sharing your artistic point of view.

Love the way the one seal is facing the camera with mouth open. Really gives a focal point to the sea of seals. Excellent shot.

  • Thank you. Finding one thing to focus can be a challenge at Cape Cross. There are literally thousands of seals all yelling and flopping around for attention. Your senses can be overwhelmed. But it’s great fun and a thrill to see, hear… and smell. ;-) Lots of shots, loads of fun clicking on instinct and laughter. And great joy later when image review finds a moment luck was on your side.

    Excellent work!

  • Thanks Maggie! Experiencing all those seals was fun. Overly fragrant but fun nonetheless. ;-)
