Boston is my home.
The Boston Marathon runs through the streets of my city.
Its finish line is 7 picturesque blocks from my Back Bay home.

Patriot’s Day 2013, I’m far away visiting family when I learn of the Boston Marathon bombing. In disbelief I watch news reports on a crime scene made up of intimately familiar places from my daily life. Reading a commentary this morning, I’m reminded that Boston never surrenders and, wishing I were home, I relive walks through Boston in my mind and images and remember why I so easily surrendered my heart to this great town which I now proudly call home.

This image keeps me company today… September 11th last year, an unexpected turn brought me to a single piece of paper left in the Garden of Remembrance to honor victims of terrorist tragedy. It’s message only grows more powerful with time.

During an unexpected chance to experience Africa, a seed was planted. Nurtured by subsequent forays into wild places, this photographer was born.

Jacques Cousteau said “People protect what they love.” And we’ve all heard that “A picture is worth a thousand words.” So, enough with this. My photography says the rest. Thanks for listening.

So many evil actions and yesterday’s despicable, cowardly action added to the carnage – the people who carried out this cannot know the power of love – only the power of power ! – Powerful capture !!
  • Thank you Mattie for your powerful comments and sentiments. Heartfelt appreciation and hope we can all stay safe… Sylvia

  • So true Lorraine. Glad you are OK too. I’m still out of town and can’t stop thinking I wish i was home. I know there is nothing I can do but there is an emptiness in my heart that will only be filled by walking the streets of the Back Bay again…
