As the Charles River reaches the Hatch Shell along Boston’s Esplanade, it turns north giving you a western view straight down the center of the river. On this day, a week after the Blizzard of 2013 dumped 2 feet of snow on New England, 5 more inches fell on Boston and gusty winds and thick clouds lingered long after this snow stopped falling. All elements combined for a memorable experience as the sun set in brilliant color and gusts stinging with icy furor periodically whipped snow off the frozen river into perfect mists of soft focus.

A moment of stillness, between gusts of wind…

A few moments later, in a strong gust of wind-whipped snow…

During an unexpected chance to experience Africa, a seed was planted. Nurtured by subsequent forays into wild places, this photographer was born.

Jacques Cousteau said “People protect what they love.” And we’ve all heard that “A picture is worth a thousand words.” So, enough with this. My photography says the rest. Thanks for listening.

very nice! I like the hazy effect and that bright red light ;)

  • Thank you Manon. I loved when the wind picked up the snow and sent it racing across everything. But it was tough photographing it as the best views were straight into the wind which too often covered the lens with snow or was just impossible to stand still in. Made for a very wintery and fun walk though! ;-)

Wow…such a gorgeous Winter scene. The sky looks so striking!!!

  • Thank you Fern! That sky was breathtaking… essentially exploded from the most dreary, stormy day. Nature never ceases to amaze…
