Cormorants are water birds and feed on the sea and on freshwater lakes and rivers. In order to catch fishes they dive from the surface of the water to depths of as much as 45 meters, swimming under water by propelling themselves with their feet. After fishing, cormorants go ashore, and are frequently seen holding their wings out in the sun to dry.
