The village of Koxare is 23 km south of Rethymnon at the north entrance of Kourtaliotiko Gorge. The village lies in one of the most fertile regions of the hinterland. The lush green landscape of the Koxare plain with olive trees alternates with the wild and imposing landscape among the surrounding mountains on the foot of which the village is built. Residents occupied almost exclusively with farming and stock breeding.
