White and Pink

Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens
Belmont, NC

Nikon D70s and Nikon 70-300 EDIF

Braced over a small waterfall, these orchids dazzled with the deep pink and white combination

Notice the cascading florals – the white kind of frames the pink and both pink orchid strands are on slight diagonals, addding more interest than just 90 degree right angles

    G’day DR,

This is a great find with the eye-catching festoon of magenta orchids, capped by the white ones, streaming down the frame.
A very good composition and a good exposure, backed by a well muted and soft background makes these floral gems stand out so well.

I do feel though that you have over sharpened slightly as there are quite discernible artifacts along the stem and all the tiny “speckles” stand out extremely sharply.
If you have access to Photoshop, I suggest using Unsharpen Mask in the LAB Colour Mode Lightness Channel and apply it selectively to all the edges and detail you wish to be sharp by whatever masking technique you prefer. That way you leave the petal surfaces alone.

Focus is spot on, contrast is good and the colours are wonderfully natural.
