This is “Lucy”, the absolutely gorgeous partially leucistic piebald Fox Squirrel that has become a frequent visitor to my backyard. From what I have read, this color variation is pretty rare.
Here is the definition of “Partially Leucistic”.
Leucism (or Leukism)
Leucism is a very unusual condition whereby the pigmentation cells in an animal or bird fail to develop properly. This can result in unusual white patches appearing on the animal, or, more rarely, completely white creatures.
In the last week, I have seen her 3 out of the seven days. I’m hoping that this means that she will become a permanent resident of my backyard because she makes me SO happy to see. :-)
Here are a few of the other color variations that call my backyard their home.
