There is absolutely nothing friendly looking about this wasp. As the matter of fact, he would appear to be perched and ready to hurt me.
I captured this photo at Frohring Meadows in Geauga County.

  • Doesn’t that picture kinda give you the creeps? I mean, look close… you can see it’s mandibles with lots of big sharp teeth on them! Now I know where they get scary creature ideas for horror movies. lol All you have to do is look at insects closely lol

    Marcia, great shot, true bravey – I believe this guy is related to the hornet family, they are very agressive predator especially to local bees which they hunt down and emaciate on the spot, their bite is not so bad but their sting is very painfull.

  • lol… You have NO idea how brave I was :-o I mean, they were flying all around me!
    After doing my research, I believed this to be a “Northern Paper Wasp”… But, I am no bug expert… lol I just love the thrill of taking pictures of them :-)
