These are among the things I love…..

Quiet walks through the forests in misty rain listening to the sounds of nature and my own inner voice;

photographing beautiful foliage, interesting bark, and the way the light plays on leaves and filters through the canopy, enjoying the spirit of earth;

Hamoa, Hana, the wildlife and pristine wilderness of Alaska, Ho’okipa, Hawai’i;

wandering through the Viktualienmarkt in Muenchen enjoying the fresh smell of vegetables and fruits grown in filtered sun;

riding horseback through the Perlacher Forst on a beautiful black draft horse called Pascha in the Gruenwald;

Berchtesgaden;

resonating with ocean song;

making love in the cool grass warmed by a blanket of stars;

listening to children’s laughter;

standing in rippling cool water on river stones in my bare feet;

gazing into the eyes of my children and the man I love;

communicating without words….

I feel a natural affinity with the culture, language and music, native beauty, menehune, mana, and the amazing vortex of love energy surrounding the island of Maui and the South Pacific islands.

I feel a special spiritual resonance in the mystical rainforests of Hana, which saturates me with Aloha Spirit and Love so pure.

If only I could, I would move back in time to the islands precontact, if only for a day……... hopefully for a lifetime….. to silently wander among the trees in the ancient long-quiescent deep forests and breathe deeply the sweet essence of rainsoaked earth.

I would love to hear the roar of the spectacular waterfalls and feel the spray as it saturates my skin, to see the many perennial rivers and fresh water streams before the water diversions, and celebrate in dance the blessed rain with eyes closed and arms outstretched.

I would love to explore the windward rainforests and delight in listening to enchanting birdsong of exotic bird species found no where else in the world before they became extinct.

I would marvel at the leeward dry forests and specialized creatures who once thrived there.

I would stand at the precipice of magnificent seacliffs and wave to the magnificent Humpbacks and Dolphins and laugh at the playful antics of the Honu as they roll in the incoming waves.

I would gaze in wonder at peaceful sunrises and sing in thanks and gratitude for sensational sunsets and I would play in the warm luxurious sands of multicolours and textures at water’s edge like an innocent child.

I would love to explore this beautiful island precontact and see it in all it’s splendid pristine unaltered magnificence when it was still isolated from urbanization by a vast ocean sparkling in the moonlight like a jewel in the deep blue sea beneath a star filled sky.

This is the land I love and the island I see in my mind’s eye, stunning in it’s purest beauty. It is what I long for and it is a spiritual challenge for a sensitive girl who resonates with nature and ocean song trying to cope in a modern world.

“We men of Earth have here the stuff Of Paradise
we have enough!
We need no other stones to build The Temple of the Unfulfilled
– No other ivory for the doors
– No other marble for the floors
– No other cedar for the beam And dome of man’s immortal dream.
Here on the paths of every day
– Here on the common human way
Is all the stuff the gods would take To build a Heaven,
to mold and make New Edens.
Ours is the stuff sublime
To build Eternity in time!” ~ poetry by Edwin Markham

    Wow, you have a way with words my dear friend. Beautiful, absolutely beautiful. I am not surprised at the way you’re feeling about your island as this is exactly the way I feel about it and I was just a visitor. Marvelous writing.

    What a beautiful way to get to know you, as this is you at the bases level, your heart and mind. I read all the beauty you see in your world, and I envy you these idyllic places, I wish the whole world was as this, and not the war torn lands, and cities of teaming poverty, or businesses with no windows where workers toil their lives away.. Please, if there is a god out there, let the world all fit into this idyllic world so beautifully described to us by Sharon!

  • Sharon Mau replied
