Everywhere I look, I see beauty.

Listen if you would hear the music of the land.

Imitate nature in your art.

Give one blessing for every two you receive.

Never refuse a gift of the land.

Heed well the voice of your heart.

Give to the land more than you take.

The song of the sea is neverending.

On any great journey, be guided by the stars, na hoku.

Learn of the world around you, and in the learning, ... find
yourself.

Honor the memory of your ancestors, your kupuna.

Every life is precious; every spirit unique and
irreplaceable.

A Journey of the spirit is never truly finished—its paths
continually unfold before us.

A life well spent is like the banyan tree—anchored to the
land by many roots.

The rain is a blessing of renewal upon the earth.

Arise, oh Sun, and warm the land with your passage!

Though I have no wings, my spirit flies upon the wind!

Strength is the warrior within.

The land is rich in abundance for those who know where to
look.

In the song of the ocean, I find healing.

Let me be like the dolphin—joyous in the knowledge of my
freedom!

The sun’s light brings new life—the moon’s glow, renewal.

In each of us dwells the fountainhead of greatness.

The creative source is also the source of life.

Each of us must aspire to the heights of our own abilities.

Our spirits are reborn in the land.

What benefits the Earth, Ke Au Nei, benefits all life.

Find the good in every aspect of life.

The wind bides for a spell in this place, then it seeks
other lands to explore.

Stone remains when all else passes away.

Build to preserve, not to destroy.

Beautiful and turbulent waters at this wonderful beach. What time of the day was this? I do not see clouds in the sky but that makes the water the focus. Wonderful work!.

  • Sharon Mau replied

Aloha sweetheart! It was later in the evening
    Shooting Date/Time 19 April 2009 16:29:23
    About 430pm.
The Vog was so amazing as we were driving about on the island visibility was reduced so much that we could not see Haleakala or West Maui. When the volcanic activity on the Big Island is high and the Kona winds blow through, the vog can sometimes be very thick. It causes respiratory problems for many people and often you can actually taste it. When we were on Po’olenalena and Pa’ako Beach, as well as Makena Landing yesterday we could not see Kaho’olawe Island or the island of Lana’i!! Only Molokini appeared on the horizon as an opaque silhouette. We had a wonderful day! I am so happy to hear from you. Mahalo for your sweet note!

Ahhh, love it! nice work Sharon!

  • Sharon Mau

‘Ae, it was taken yesterday. The Vog was so intense we could not see Haleakala from Kahului and we could not see West Maui from Pa’ako. The sunset was so strange and surreal, the sun appeared as an enormous red orb and then the sky faded to a flat grey. The light was wonderful opposite the sun however and I took some wonderful shots of Jacob in the water at Ahihi Kinau. We had such a good time yesterday. We hit Po’olenalena Beach, Makena Landing, Pa’ako Beach, Ahihi Kinau and then Kama’ole. Then we treated ourselves to a wonderful chinese dinner in Kihei before driving back up the mountain late in the evening. We both slept like babies after so much fun in the voggy sun :)
