Wow, that is an amazing ice sculpture! And you’ve done an excellent job capturing it. I’d love to see that in person, it looks so beautiful. This reminds me that in a town not far from me they have an ice sculpture demonstration and competition every year, in Jan or Feb, I think. I haven’t been there before, but having a nicer camera now is a perfect excuse to go. :-)

Ae, definitely a must see!! I wish we could create albums here. I have many shots of the beautiful ice sculptures and the artists. It was fantastic wandering about in the deep cold and viewing the many works of art. And I especially enjoying being in the warm Quanset Hut listening to the local highschool students playing their musical instruments. There were refreshments and many warm drinks offered as well. I continuously walked inside to warm my hands and face. I think I will upload a couple of those. I am happy you enjoy this! Of all the ice sculpture entries I saw on this evening, this one is my favourite.

I couldn’t just stop myself from giving this piece of art a second visit, Sharon! Have never seen an ice sculpture in reality, this is wonderfull – and so is the composition here!!!..those tiny dots of light – makes it look even more magical, or should I say eerie ..I dont know what to say, just wonderful!

  • Sharon Mau replied 26 days ago

Aloha, what is your name? Thank you so much. You really need to see them to fully appreciate their beauty. Many people actually compete in these wonderful ice carving events for prizes and recognition. Some are actually international events. One of the wonderful things about it is that once they are carved, the ice art remains for several months. There were many lights, as in winter in Interior Alaska it is dark around the clock, the sun does not rise and there is no daylight for such a long time. So the sculptures are illuminated by electrical lighting, which creates the most beautiful sparkles and causes the ice to appear like crystal.

  • Sharon Mau replied 26 days ago

This sculpture was about 6 – 7 feet high. I’ll upload some more so that you can see them.
