The Inverurie Fire Brigade by

1940 Bedford pump /escape engine in the colours of the Scottish, North Eastern Fire Brigade.
I suspect this lovely old lady started life as a WW2 , blitz engine, in a major city somewhere in the UK. Probably finished in drab grey or some such non – descript camoflage colour. Certainly in 1940 the Royal Burgh of Inverurie didn’t have a vehicle of this type , having to rely on the council lorrys to tow a pump to the scene of any fire. However she is listed as having been allocated to the North Eastern Fire Brigade sometime in the 1950’s. The North Eastern these days is now the Grampion Fire And Rescue Service. Anyway whatever her history and trauma she attended , this hero that played a part in rescuing many people is still going with the help of McGreevy Engineering in Northern Ireland. She is seen here at County Down Steam and Tractor Club rally at Greyabbey, Rosemount estate co Down , Ards Penninsula.

  • Thanks David. yeah .. I tried to trace a bit of history on her ..and I ‘think’ she wasn’t origionally up in Aberdeen direction. Maybe somebody knows her history.. maybe she was in Glasgow or Stoke or even Belfast in the blitz who knows ?….

Hi All, BAV 94 or “Betsie” as she is better known by is a 1939 Bedford M type
The vehicle coackwork was built onto a Bedford Chassis by A.C Cars of Thames Ditton Surrey
It was purchased by the Town Council of Inverurie in Aberdeenshire as a water carrier/pumping appliance and was the first motorised Fire Engine in the Borough.

  • Thanks Sheila … she’s definately a classic ! I emailed McGreevy engineering and AAron even went to the trouble of joining RB to comment!!
