It was with great pleasure I was asked to “The Flax Mills”: fashion show. The Flax Mill is sadly one of the last bastions of Irish linen weaving in Ulster, kept alive through the passion and skill of Herman and Marion Baur. Not local names I hear people say! No not local names .. Herman and Marion hail from Germany but have lived here for umteen years and become members of our community. Together they have revived and kept alive a little of the old skills we in Ulster where so proud of. In their restored corn and flax mill they have set up a working and thriving, traditional Irish linen weaving business.
Together their skills are second to none.
This is only an introductory photograph. I hope you will stay with me as I take you through the world of Herman and Marion and the snapshots of Ulster linen.

You can bet I will (stay with you, that is) as this linen unfolds. A fine shot, here; great composition & plenty of history.

  • Thank you Sheila, I have lots more to post of this little corner of Irishness.

FLIGHTS AND WHAT NOT BEING SO EXPENSIVE…
AND ME NOT EARNING AN INCOME DUE TO MY DISABILITIES
(NOT EVEN SOCIAL SECURITY..AS I NEVER PAID ENOUGH YEARS IN)
SO ROUGH ON MY HUSBAND TO CARRY THE WEIGHT ALONE..:(

ONLY THE WISHING AND THE LUCK OF THE IRISH. WOULD MAKE IT SO FOR ME…

BUT YOUR PICTURES AND TALES BRING ME CLOSER TO IT…
AND I THANK YOU FOR THAT INDEED..:)

  • Thank you Tammara. Sorry to say I’m skint an’all, and the pension reference applies to me as well! Never mind I’ll do my best to spin a good yarn (all puns intended) and as a ray of hope I’ll keep doing the lottery and you never know YOUR luck! ;-)
