Taken some 25 or more years ago and restored with Adobe and Faststone. Very badly scratched and pitted old neg. Camera was probably a Practica BC 3 and Fuji Film.
Rory the Raker was a wonderfull natured Irish Red and White Setter, owned by an old friend Tommy Agnew from Bangor Co Down and owner of the famous ‘Tacavonoff’ Borzoi kennel. Bred by Walter Thompson of the ‘Moirabank’ kennel Moira, Co Down.

From Wiki:-
‘Originally all Irish Setters were mostly red, or red and white, but from around 1880 breeders began to prefer the solid red variety. Consequently, the breed came close to extinction. Thanks to the efforts of an early 20th century Northern Irish clergyman, Noble Huston, the breed survived but only in small numbers in the island of Ireland. From around 1970 there was a planned revival of the breed, and the numbers began to increase slowly. By the 1980s IRWS were being imported into Great Britain, where the breed was developed more as a show dog. In contrast to these British IRWS, the breed has continued to be primarily a working and field trial dog in Ireland.’
Many happy hours were spent, tramping the fields on the edges of the ‘Clandeboye’ estate with the dogs, and ‘bonehead’ Rory was in his element ‘raking’ around the fields. Sadly Rory, Tommy and Walter are long gone, as are the fields.. they are now a large housing estate! The spirit of Rory must live on and i’m sure the residents must wonder who is digging up the Dahlias and trampling the flower beds at night … Rory the Raker!
