72Years since Dunkirk-68 since D-Day by

Plaque on the harbour wall, Bangor Co Down.
This week (28/5/12) is the 72nd anniversary of the withdrawal of the British Expeditionary Force from France. Over three and a half hundred thousand men of the BEF and remmnents of the French and Belgium armys were rescued from the beaches of Dunkirk as Hitlers war machine stormed across Europe. My father was one who got away, only to be sent back in four years later on D-Day.
Bangor Bay and Belfast lough were the chosen gathering place by Dwight D Eisenhower, supreme Commander of the allied forces, of the armada of ships to descend on the shores of Normandy carrying the heros required to shift the Devils lunatic and free Europe again.
