View along Whiterock bay to Sketrick Island and remains of the castle. Sketrick island is also home to Daft Eddys bar and resturant, a great watering hole on the Lough.
Daft Eddie by the by was one of a gang of smugglers of Strangford Lough who eluded the customs men continually, mainly due to ’Daft’Eddie who they never believed was a smuggler .. just the local simpleton. Daft Eddie, or The Smugglers of Strangford Lough, a book by W G Lyttle tells the story of the incredible activities of a wild band of smugglers who conducted a reign of terror around the shores of Strangford Lough in the early years of the 19th century.
As with all of the coastline of Northern Ireland,Strangford Lough is looked after by the National trust.
