Taken some 30 or so years ago at the Northern Ireland Pup of the Year dog show.
Ben simpson showing one his Cairn Terriers .
Ben spent his lifetime in showing and breeding dogs. Born in Armagh city co Armagh, Ben lost an arm in his teens but never let his disability get in his way. He used to groom the dog with his good arm and carry the dog to ring with what remained of his other arm. In the photo you can just see the sleeve of the missing arm, it was always left loose and people who didn’t know him never noticed. He went on to become the top breeder of Cairn’s probably in the world. He judged Crufts I’m told in 1922. He was over eighty years old in this photograph, a soft spoken gentleman. My grandmother and him were neighbours in Armagh, and remember telling him this by way of a chat and he immediatley came back .." My God son! I could be your Grandfather!" Ben is long gone but his legend lives on.
