Artist's Description

1929 Rolls Royce 20/25 Open barrel sided tourer. I first came across and photographed this wonderful car at Mountstewart, County Down, more than a few years ago. She appeared just recently in an adaption of P G Wodehouse’s ‘Blandings’. Filmed by the BBC at Crom Castle and Co Fermanagh, Northern Ireland.
Sad when I discovered she’s for sale and being shipped to England .

‘The car left Mulliners works in November of 1929 warranted by Rolls-Royce guarantee number 4721. Raked steering was ordered which well suits its current coach work making for a pleasant driving position. The car was discovered some years ago having been laid up in a motor shed on an island in Strangford Lough. In the ’50’s the car passed through the hands of the father of racing driver Innes Ireland.

This car is one of a pair built by the late owner to an exemplary standard. He took exact dimensions from existing cars with original coachwork & replicated them in every detail.

This car is copied from a Barker Barrel sided tourer from which minute & exacting measurements were taken. The result is superb in the classic Barked tradition. The deeply curved centre cowl accentuates the beauty of the body; aluminum panels mounted on a magnificent ash frame.

The car is finished in Burgundy with Black wings; the paint being excellent. To the interior is sumptuous burgundy leather both front & rear. The back has picnic tables & a cocktail cabinet containing two cut glass decanters. Possibly Waterford Crystal.

The car has a built in motoring trunk to the rear; useful for picnic requisites & blankets. Being an early car it has a non synchro box which is easily mastered. The dash has a full compliment of the usual gauges.

And more bad news ! The poor Empress of Blandings has passed away..or ..possibly gone with the wind! She will be so sadly missed , as this Miss Piggy was THE star of the series.
