I have seen them many times, but not on the same branch like this. Their nest is a tree away, and the female will be laying her eggs there very soon. The female is on the right in this image taken in late March, 2010, in Delta, British Columbia, Canada, a half hour away from downtown Vancouver. I captured the image on my Nikon D300 with my 600 mm lens and 1.4 teleconverter attached, mounted on a monopod, using these settings: ISO 500, manual WB, +0.33 EV, f5.6, 1/1000s.

The red tailed hawk is the largest hawk to inhabit this area. Its call has been made famous by western movies. Click to hear this famous sound

If I could live my life to live over, I would be a biologist because nature provides me with such joy and passion. I am able to capture and share my experiences in nature with good camera gear, and through the medium of RedBubble. I hope you enjoy my work capturing scenes from nature.

David that is simply stunning… How lucky you are to have spotted and photographed such a wonderful sight

  • Thank you, Rosemaree. The male is the same bird pictured in my image “Red Tailed Hawk Lining His Nest”. I look forward to watching these birds raise and hopefully fledge their young. Look for more images over the next couple of months.

Aww, it is that time. I have two pairs in my area and one has been on the nest for a few weeks…….Beautiful capture!

  • Thank you, Kimberly. I expect the female to be on the nest any day now, and hope to get some great images of the chicks being cared for.
