She has spotted a fish from her perch on the rusted piling, and is maneuvering for a dive. Her shadow in the setting sun was caught on the aged steel structrure. She lives by fishing; her only food is live fish which she must catch in the most dramatic fashion. This image was captured using a Nikon D700 and Nikkor 600 mm lens with 1.4 Nikon teleconverter. The photographer was hidden in the alder trees surrounding the salt water lagoon near Campbell River, BC, Canada, where the bird was fishing.

If I could live my life to live over, I would be a biologist because nature provides me with such joy and passion. I am able to capture and share my experiences in nature with good camera gear, and through the medium of RedBubble. I hope you enjoy my work capturing scenes from nature.

Very well done, David, your patience certainly pays.

  • Thank you, Jesika. One great wildlife photographer said skills for the task are a given. What makes the difference is patience and luck.

Oh this is magical David. Love the reflection and the delicacy and freedom of the huntress (beautiful name) Love this.

  • This one is special to me too, Anthea. With my most meaningful images, the title just happens easily. With other images, I struggle for a title. I am happy you like this one. Thank you.

I love this one!!! Love the crispness of the Fisher and his shadow.

  • I am “in love” with this bird, Appel. She is very wild, and hard to photograph, so I am proud of the capture. The shadow was such a bonus. Thank you.
