Photographing kingfishers is a challenge. They are shy of humans. They don’t sit still for long, and when they move, they are very fast. Tracking them is very difficult, requiring lots of patience and good luck. This image was captured at the Oyster Bay Shoreline Park on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

oh wow this is gorgeous! looks like you had a very productive day! wonderful close up :)

  • Thank you, Kelly. It was a very productive day, not so much because of the birds, but because it was sunny, giving my lots of light for shooting.

This is the best picture of a kingfisher in flight I have seen. Very well done. You should be proud of the work and effort as it has paid off.

  • Wow, this is quite a compliment, David. I am proud, and know that so much of getting good nature pictures is having the patience to wait for opportunities. Thank you so much.

David, this is stunning! How lucky to be able to get a shot like this of the gorgeous Kingfisher. I can’t believe how clean and crisp this is and with a 600mm lens, my dream!

  • Thank you, Vickie. I wouldn’t have been able to get this shot without the 600.

very impressive David, wow, great capture, they are sure hard to capture and you’ve done a great job, cheers

  • I have been “chasing” these birds for some time. Each time out, I seem to get better shots. Today, in the bright sunlight was great fun. Thank you for this comment, and for all the others you have made on my work. I am very appreciative.
