Floathome Community at Canoe Pass by

Several floathome communities exist on the Fraser River on the West Coast of Canada. This one is at Canoe Pass on the delta of this huge river just a short distance from where the river flows into Georgia Strait and the Pacific Ocean. I captured this image of an alternative life style upscale community at dawn in the low light of late autumn. The river is calm; the air is misty.

Nikon D2Xs, 12-24 mm lens, on a Gitzo tripod, F22, ISO 200, 30 seconds in the low light.

If I could live my life to live over, I would be a biologist because nature provides me with such joy and passion. I am able to capture and share my experiences in nature with good camera gear, and through the medium of RedBubble. I hope you enjoy my work capturing scenes from nature.

this is beautiful David, what a mood it creates. I would love the sound of the slap of water on the house (I think)

  • These are beautiful homes, Vickie, but a very different way of enjoying nature from what I expect you are used to.

David this is Awesome …bring back so many memories ..curious was this taken in Ladner?..I Lived in Vancouver for 21 yrs and honest this is the coolest photo of house boats i ever saw…WOW,,,,,steve

  • Hi Steve,
Yes, this was shot this morning in Ladner. I couldn’t sleep, so was out early with the camera on my tripod. The fog and the lack of wind made for a great photo. Thank you for your comment, Steve.

Beautiful dreamy capture,it would be lovely to have a lifestyle centered around this

  • I think people here have a wonderful “water lifesyle” similar to other places such as on the Rhine in the Netherlands.

Oh! what a wonderful idea! i spent some time living on a houseboat and loved it. I imagine this would be a little different but along the same lines. it looks marvelous and I love the way you have captured this!! Well Done!

  • Thank you, Selina. These are different from houseboats. They are houses built on a float, like a barge, and anchored. Each house “owns” a water lot. They are part of a strata organization. Most of the homes are architecturally designed, and some are quite upscale.
