The Oyster River Shoreline Park is a recovered area from what was once an active logging wet land area for sorting logs. Large poles still dot the area, and make great landings for the many birds that are now attracted by the area for its rich food sources. This image captures a male belted kingfisher about to land on one of the huge poles still in existence within the park. Kingfishers are shy birds, not easily captured by photographers, and one bird that has returned to the area since logging acitviites ceased.
