  • David Friederich replied

Oh thank you, Kelly. I had fun today shooting bees…eagles to bees…I bit of an adjustment, but almost the same is some ways. Macro requires a whole new set of skills. Take care, Kelly.

Aww…what a beautiful capture David! Love the pollen on his little legs. Lovely lighting and comp!

  • David Friederich replied

Thank you, Sal. To get a couple of good shots like this one I filled three 4 GB cards. My lens wouldn’t autofocus fast enough, so I was focussing manually. Many many shots were duds, but I had as much fun as I do shooting eagles. I really appreciate your comment, Sal.

You’ve got one! Wonderful, now the tiny world opens up as well. Will you be using 2 cameras and two packhorses now?
A lovely shot, David. You’ve gone from tree top miles away to ankle high in one easy step.
    Beautiful bee.

  • David Friederich replied

Oh, you don’t want to know, Jesika. I look like such a geeky nerd, I’m sure. I am my own packhorse. Thank you, yesterday was a day of extremes in subject and technique.

i can’t wait to try out the new lens :) I’ve been experiementing with getting good close up shots with my standard lens so making the switch to the macro shouldn’t prove to be to difficult… i hope lol.

I am SO jealous! :-D I’ve been trying to get a bee for ages. This one is BEAUTIFULLY photographed David!!! I love the background, the details and the gorgeous colours. This is SO well done!!!

  • David Friederich replied

Holly, if you knew how many shots I took to get the two I uploaded to RB, you might think I was somewhat obsessive. I spent two full afternoons at a budding shrub honey bees were attracted to and shot hundreds and hundreds of shots, then spent countless hours evaluating them, before spending more time in processing my selections. Some people have suggested macro work is easy. What a fallacy. I am glad you like this one, Holly, because I have an attachment to it. Thank you.
